Second place and valuable championship points for the Porsche Cayman

14.07.2019

The Frikadelli Racing Team started the second half of the season with a good result. Hendrik von Danwitz and "Jules" secured second place in the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport (Type 981) at the fourth round of the VLN Endurance Championship on the Nürburgring. This allowed the Frikadelli Racing Team to successfully defend the lead in the team championship.

“We can be very happy with the race again, even though we would have liked to celebrate our third win of the season. In the end, we are just three seconds behind the winner of our class. The result was very important for us in the fight for the title in the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport classification (Type 981)”, explains Hendrik von Danwitz.

The start in the race weekend should be extremely turbulent. The qualifying was interrupted with the red flag after only eight minutes. An accident with four vehicles in the section Kesselchen was the reason for that. After the evacuation of the accident site and the completion of a necessary guardrail repair could the training be continued. Due to the associated time delay, the race director decided to reduce the remaining qualifying time to 45 minutes. Hendrik von Danwitz and "Jules" were not put off by these circumstances and put the # 962 Porsche Cayman GT4 CS with a lap time of 8:59.245 min. in the pole position in the classification for the 981-series of the vehicle.

In the race, the two pilots were able to build on this strong performance. Almost over the entire three-and-a-half-hour distance of Danwitz and "Jules" dominated the events at the top. Finally, with second place in the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport (Type 981) and fourth place in the Cup3 class, the results were more than impressive.

"So far we can be very satisfied with the performance of our Porsche Cayman. Hendrik and "Jules" performed well during the first four races of the season and rightfully claimed the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport (Type 981) after two victories and a second place finish. We will continue to give our best on the team to support the two pilots in their missions as best as possible. As far as our GT3 program is concerned, we have a lot in mind this season. In the next few days we will be able to announce which race series or which events will be our future", explains Klaus Abbelen.
