Frikadelli Racing wins important championship points in the 6-hour race

09.07.2023

At the 6-hour race of the Nürburgring long-distance series, the Frikadelli Racing Team took second place in the AM classification of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring and thus successfully defended its lead in the drivers' championship. For the team from Barweiler it was the fifth podium result in the fifth race of the season with the #111 Porsche 992 GT3 Cup.

“I am very satisfied with the weekend. With second place, we managed to score valuable points for the championship again, and pole position in qualifying also gave us additional points. This was extremely important in the 6-hour race in particular, because there were 1.5 times the points due to the longer distance. Of course, the puncture was still a pity, which threw us back about three minutes and cost us a possible win. This was probably a consequence of a collision through no fault of his own in the early stages of the race. It's a shame, because we had the pace to win the class," summed up team manager Klaus Abbelen.

With a fantastic time of 8:11.204 minutes, Felipe Laser put the #111 Porsche 992 GT3 Cup on pole position in qualifying in the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring. In the ranking, the Leipziger left not only its direct competitors from the AM category behind, but also all the PRO vehicles. For Frikadelli Racing it was already the third overall pole in the hard-fought Cup 2 class this year.

In the race, Laser initially defended his lead and fought an intense duel with a fellow Porsche brand at the front of the field. “Jules” and Klaus Abbelen also kept a cool head afterwards, despite the extremely high outside temperatures, and impressed with a flawless performance on the track. In the meantime, however, a puncture slowed the driver trio down and resulted in a time loss of just over three minutes. Despite the setback, the team gave it their all until the end and fought their way up to second place with a strong race to catch up.

Next stop: Michelin Le Mans Cup at Le Castellet

Already next weekend Frikadelli Racing will continue in the Michelin Le Mans Cup. In Le Castellet, Klaus Abbelen and Felipe Laser want to get back into the top 10 in the overall classification with the #30 Ligier JS P320. Most recently, the driver duo managed to do this at the season opener in Barcelona, when they finished eighth together.

Driver comments on the race weekend:

“Jules” (#111 Porsche 992 GT3 Cup): “The weekend was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Everything started brilliantly with pole position and a strong start to the race, until the puncture suddenly occurred. It's a shame, but we didn't let our heads hang and pushed extremely hard to the finish. Second place brings us a few points again, which are extremely important in the fight for the championship.”

Felipe Laser (#111 Porsche 992 GT3 Cup): “We are a little disappointed because our goal was to achieve another class win. Unfortunately, on the fourth lap of the race, I was hit hard by an opponent who later received a time penalty for this. It could be that this collision also led to later tire damage. Annoying, but we'll attack again next time."
