Successful guest appearance at the end of the Protoype Cup Germany season

For Frikadelli Racing, the 2023 motorsport season came to an end last weekend with a successful guest start in the Prototype Cup Germany. Team boss Klaus Abbelen secured victory in the Trophy classification in both races at the Nürburgring at the end of the season. He was supported by Felipe Laser, who also covered some leading kilometers with the #30 Ligier JS P320.

"I'm very satisfied with our performance in the Prototype Cup Germany. The two races were a lot of fun and the series itself has developed well since our guest start last year. With the two victories in the Trophy classification, it was also quite successful for us from a sporting point of view. Felipe also proved that we can keep up with the front runners straight away in terms of pace, which is certainly also thanks to our new race engineer," says Abbelen.

In the first qualifying session, which still took place on a wet track, Laser placed the #30 Ligier JS P320 in third position overall on the grid. A number of yellow flags and an interruption with the red flag considerably restricted the time chase during the 15-minute session. In the race, the driver from Leipzig then took the lead at the front of the overall field immediately after the start and racked up plenty of leading kilometers in the LMP3 car. After the driver changeover, Abbelen successfully defended his top position in the Trophy classification and took victory in this special classification.

On race Sunday, the driver duo managed to build on the previous day's success. In temperatures just above freezing, Abbelen initially placed the #30 Ligier JS P320 in second position on the grid in the Trophy classification. In the race, he took the lead in this special classification during the first stint and also worked his way up into the top 10 in the overall standings. Laser then continued his race to catch up in the second part of the race and eventually brought the car across the finish line in sixth place overall.

Comments on the 2023 season:

Klaus Abbelen: "I would like to thank all team members, drivers, partners and sponsors for their great work and support in the past, extremely successful season.I am already looking forward to continuing our good cooperation next year.I will now use the winter break to improve my physical fitness and then fully attack again in 2024. The Prototype Cup Germany is certainly a racing series that will be on my shortlist next year. However, the final decision about a possible involvement will only be made at a later date."

Felipe Laser: "It was certainly a successful end to the season for us.The interaction with our new race engineer for the LMP3 also worked very well straight away. We were able to show what we are actually capable of and delivered two clean, flawless races. If the race on Sunday had lasted one or two laps longer, even the overall podium would have been within reach. Overall, I'm super grateful for the 2023 season. It's incredible what we've achieved together as a team. Many thanks to everyone and especially to Klaus, who gave me the opportunity to drive both the Ferrari 296 GT3 and the LMP3."
