Frikadelli Racing collects important points for the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring
After the podium place at the season opener of the Nürburgring Endurance Series, the Frikadelli Racing Team has once again scored important points for the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring. At the third round of the Nordschleife Championship, Klaus Abbelen, "Jules" and Felipe Laser finished fourth in the AM classification with the #111 Porsche 992 GT3 Cup. For the team from Barweiler, it was the last few kilometers of racing with the vehicle in front of the big highlight of the season, the 24-hour race. The Cup Porsche is now being prepared for use in the long-distance classic.
“We're not entirely happy with how the weekend went this time. Although we managed to get over the distance again without a scratch, we still couldn't really build on the performance from the first run and from the training. However, we know where we have to do something and will come back stronger next time. What makes us very optimistic is the fact that Felipe was able to match the pace of the front-runners in the final stint. That's a very good sign and gives us a lot of hope for the rest of the season," sums up team manager Klaus Abbelen.
Like many other teams, the Frikadelli team lacked the last bit of luck in qualifying to find a suitable time window for a fast lap time. A few lengthy code 60 or yellow phases significantly restricted the pursuit of times during the session. “Today it was difficult to get into a kind of rhythm. Incidents on the track repeatedly meant that we had to slow down. That also dragged on for large parts of the race,” explains Jules. Despite this, the driver trio worked their way up to fourth place over the four-hour distance.
“I would have desired Klaus and Jules another podium place in the AM classification. It's a shame that it wasn't quite enough in the end. We will use the time until the next race to analyze the race and then hopefully fight our way back to it,” said Laser.
The second round of the Michelin Le Mans Cup in Imola is the next event for Frikadelli Racing in mid-May. Two weeks later (May 28-29, 2022) the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring follows.
