20.09.2021
At the penultimate season stop of the Michelin Le Mans Cup in Spa-Francorchamps, Klaus Abbelen and Axcil Jefferies with the # 30 Ligier JS P320 took 15th place overall. The Frikadelli driver duo showed strong pace during the two-hour race in the Belgian Ardennes and was even able to keep up with the times at the top at times.
“The development work of our entire Frikadelli Racing Team is bearing more and more fruit. As far as our racing pace is concerned, we've been able to improve again compared to the last few stops in the season. Accordingly, this assignment in Spa-Francorchamps gave us a lot of fun and joy. Unfortunately, we are currently still a little lacking the key to qualifying to put us in a better starting position there. We will still work on that and I am very confident that we will also succeed, ”said Klaus Abbelen.
From 23rd on the grid, he tackled the race with the Ligier JS P320 and got off to a good start. When braking on “La Source”, Abbelen was turned around by an opponent and fell back to the end of the field on the first lap through no fault of his own. With a lot of fighting spirit and a good strategy, the Frikadelli team gradually worked their way up from position 29. At the finish, the # 30 Ligier JS P320 was flagged for 15th place overall.
“We made the driver change during a full course yellow phase and therefore at the right time. In addition, the changes to the car that we made compared to qualifying also had a positive effect on the race. Overall, the bottom line is that we understand the new LMP3 better and better, but there is still a lot of work ahead of us, ”continues Abbelen. His team-mate Axcil Jefferies drew a similar conclusion: “Another positive weekend is behind us. From our point of view, the season in the Michelin Le Mans Cup is purely a year of learning, so it is very nice to see how the entire team is constantly developing from station to station. I really enjoy being part of this process and being able to accompany the team on this path. "
