Frikadelli Racing is gathering further important experience with the new Ligier
20.10.2019
After the Frikadelli Racing Team celebrated a brilliant debut with the new Ligier at the Hockenheimring a few weeks ago, the spectacular LMP3 car was re-entered at the season-finale of the Special Touring Car Trophy (STT). Although the cult crew from Barweiler should be denied a top result in the final standings this time, valuable experience was gained at the Nürburgring in the most difficult weather conditions.
"Based on the weather forecast, we knew that there would be a lot of rain. It was important for us to cover miles, because with the Ligier we had no experience here. In this respect, we have managed to gain first impressions here, although the time on the track at this weekend has unfortunately been a bit shorter than planned, "says team boss Klaus Abbelen, who drove the Ligier JS-P3.
Thus, the first STT race on Friday was already canceled shortly after the start with the red flag. A heavy impact of a Ford GT during the first lap made the guardrail badly damaged. Due to the associated longer repair break the race could not be resumed afterwards.
Also the following day should not be under a good star. After a Ferrari 458 GT3 crashed in the area of the Mercedes Arena, the second qualifying had to be canceled after a few laps also with the red flag. Nevertheless, Abbelen could secure a promising third starting position in the shortened session. "The starting position for the second race was certainly not bad, but we don´t had the experience in the rain with the LMP3 vehicle. Ultimately, is not a top result came out. Now we have to work on the set-up, so that we are competitive with the Ligier in all weather conditions. "
