Frikadelli Racing is ready for the “Road to Le Mans”

06.06.2022

Barely 14 days after the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, the second major highlight of the season for Frikadelli Racing is the “Road to Le Mans”. Last year, the squad of team boss Klaus Abbelen made it into the top 10 of the overall classification at the Circuit de la Sarthe. A result that, despite a difficult start to the season in the Michelin Le Mans Cup, one would very much like to repeat.

“We took part in the Road to Le Mans for the first time in 2021 and were able to celebrate a strong premiere right away. In the first race we managed to finish tenth overall and thus delivered our best result of the season. In the second race we then showed a strong fightback, which brought us from the end of the field to rank 18 and was a lot of fun. At that time there were already 45 cars at the start,” team manager Klaus Abbelen remembers.

This year the starting field for the season highlight of the Michelin Le Mans Cup is growing even further. A total of 50 vehicles are entered for the event. In the LMP3 category, in which the Frikadelli Racing Team competes, there are 36 of these cars. The starting signal at the 13.6 km long circuit in western France will be given on Wednesday with two free practice sessions before the qualifying sessions for the two 55-minute races are scheduled for early Thursday afternoon. The first race takes place on Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m., the second race follows on Saturday at 11:20 a.m. and thus immediately before the start of the 90th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“Even if the competition has become significantly stronger this year, we will do everything we can to be as successful as in the previous season. At the first two stations in Le Castellet and Imola we were able to make great progress in the setup area with our LMP3 vehicle, which makes me very confident. We also recently had a promising test day at the Nürburgring. Now we hope that we can implement the performance in Le Mans and that the necessary racing luck is on our side," says Abbelen, who will share the wheel of the #30 Ligier JS P320 with Felipe Laser as usual.
