Frikadelli Racing wins the AM Championship title in the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring
11.09.2023
Klaus Abbelen and "Jules" have secured the title win in the AM championship of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring early with the #111 Porsche 992 GT3 Cup of Frikadelli Racing. Together with Felipe Laser, they took victory in the six-hour race on Saturday and finished second over the same distance on Sunday. The points earned mean that Abbelen and "Jules" can no longer be ousted from the top of the standings in the remaining two NLS rounds.
"We are really happy about winning the championship early. It's fantastic that after our overall victory in the 24h race we can now also chalk up this success for ourselves - what a terrific Nordschleife season. Many thanks to the entire team and to my two driver colleagues "Jules" and Felipe. But I don't want to forget Leon Köhler and Hendrik von Danwitz, who supported us in one race each at the beginning of the season and thus also played a part in winning the title," said team boss Klaus Abbelen.
For "Jules", it is the second championship together with the Frikadelli Racing team. In 2019, the Briton already crowned himself champion in the Porsche Cayman GT4 Championship (Type 981), now his second major triumph follows in the more powerful Porsche 992 GT3 Cup. "It was another hugely successful weekend and I'm just over the moon that we were able to fulfil our dream of winning the championship thanks to great teamwork and team spirit. We will enjoy this moment together and I am already looking forward to the future," said "Jules".
His teammate Laser adds: "I am mega happy and very happy for "Jules" and Klaus. Both have done a great job this season and have developed well, which also makes me extremely happy as a coach. In addition, the entire Frikadelli team has delivered a great performance race after race - many thanks to all of them! Not to forget also that we didn't have one technical defect in the seven NLS rounds, which was certainly another key factor for the championship."
Frikadelli Racing already laid the foundation on Saturday, where the team managed to pull out its third win of the season. Starting from second on the grid, Klaus Abbelen, "Jules" and Felipe Laser made no mistakes whatsoever despite the extreme heat and maintained the upper hand in the AM category of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring. On Sunday, in similarly high outside temperatures, they were able to build on the previous day's performance and finished the race in second position after taking pole position in qualifying.
On Saturday, 23.09.2023 Frikadelli Racing continues with the eighth round of the Nürburgring Endurance Series. In addition to the #111 Porsche 992 GT3 Cup, a new #30 Ferrari 296 GT3 will be entered here. The first rollout of the car already took place during the test and set-up runs last Friday. Parallel to this, the next round of the Michelin Le Mans Cup is scheduled for the same weekend in Spa-Francorchamps, which Frikadelli Racing will also contest.
