Important points and a successful double start at the VLN season highlight

04.08.2019

In the 6h race of the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft, Sabine Schmitz, Hendrik von Danwitz and "Jules" achieved third place in the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport (Type 981). At the same time, Schmitz entered the season highlight of the VLN on Speedbeat Motorsport's BMW 325i E90 and finished fifth in the class.

"With our Porsche Cayman we were again extremely strong on the weekend and clearly led the race for just under 4.5 hours. Unfortunately, we have lost the victory due to an intermediate technical problem. After all, we still managed to limit the damage with third place. We are happy to take the points and will continue to do our utmost to win the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport (Type 981) title at the end of the year. I was very happy about the very successful double start by Sabine. It was really felt that her gas foot itched because she last sat at the second VLN race in mid-April behind the wheel, "said team boss Klaus Abbelen.

As so often this year, the Eifelwheather again presented the drivers with a great challenge this weekend. Thus, the morning time training was marked by heavy rain and fog. However, Sabine Schmitz, Hendrik von Danwitz and "Jules" kept a cool head despite these difficult conditions and put the car into pole position in the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport category (Type 981). With the BMW 325i E90 from Speedbeat Motorsport, Sabine Schmitz, together with her brother Beat Schmitz and Andre Sommerberg, qualified in twelfth place in the qualifying V4 class in qualifying.

In the race changed then to the joy of the many fans along the Nürburgring Nordschleife the conditions abruptly. Although the start was still on partially wet terrain, but the track dried up quickly and allowed an early change to Slick tires. The Porsche Cayman crew showed a strong and flawless performance until they had to take a longer pit stop due to fuel pressure problems. Thus, the third place in the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport rating (Type 981) was ultimately the maximum.

For the BMW 325i E90 from Speedbeat Motorsport, which is affectionately also called "Gisela", it went with "seven league boots" forward. Thanks to consistently fast lap times of all riders, they started a great race to catch up and finished in the V4 on a strong fifth place.

Voices after the race:
Sabine Schmitz (Driver Porsche Cayman GT4 # 962 / BMW 325i E90 # 477): "I was really excited about the weekend and my double start. Both vehicles were extremely fun for me, whether it was rain or dry. Despite the technical problems with the Porsche Cayman, I think that the results are very good. Now I am already looking forward to my next missions, which I can hardly wait for. "

Hendrik von Danwitz (Driver Porsche Cayman GT4 # 962): "First of all, I am glad that we were able to finish the 6h race despite the interim problems. Of course, the race was very annoying for us, but the points are very important for the fight in the championship of the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport. You have to consistently score to have the chance to take the title this at the end of the year. Luckily we succeeded again today. "

For the team of Frikadelli Racing is now a guest start in the ADAC GT Masters on the Nürburgring. From 16.-18. August 2019, the cult team from Barweiler faces the challenge in the "League of Supercars."
