South African adventure at the end of the season

19.11.2019

A very special highlight awaits the Frikadelli Racing Team next weekend. The team of Klaus Abbelen & Sabine Schmitz will left the European continent at the end of the season and will competed in the Porsche 911 GT3 R at the 9h race in Kyalami, South Africa. The cockpit of the "probably the fastest meatball in the world" is shared by Porsche works driver Nick Tandy (GB) together with the two Porsche Young Professionals Mathieu Jaminet (FRA) and Dennis Olsen (NOR).

“We are really looking forward to the upcoming adventure in South Africa, to which we will start with a strong driver squad. Because a 9-hour race last took place 37 years ago in Kyalami, the prerequisites are initially the same for all teams. So everything points to an exciting race weekend. We will use our car in the Pro category, because Porsche still has the chance to win the title in both the manufacturer and driver championships of the International GT Challenge (IGTC), ”team boss Klaus Abbelen looks ahead.

The Kyalami 9h race marks the end of the season not only for Frikadelli Racing but also for the IGTC. Before its appearance in South Africa, the unofficial World Championship for GT3 vehicles was already on four different continents this season. The 12h Bathurst (Australia), 8h Laguna Seca (America), 24h Spa Francorchamps (Europe) and 10h Suzuka (Asia) were part of the racing calendar of the racing series.

For the Norwegian Dennis Olsen, who won the season opener in Bathurst, Kyalami is still about winning the drivers' championship. Like Nick Tandy, he will be driving the Frikadelli Porsche, which has caused a sensation in the past with his successes in the 24-hour races at the Nürburgring and in Le Mans. The driver trio is rounded off by Mathieu Jaminet, who will celebrate his comeback at Frikadelli Racing. Most recently, the ex-champion of the ADAC GT Masters was at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring for the team of Klaus Abbelen & Sabine Schmitz.

All motorsport fans can follow the event from Kyalami in the livestream. At www.intercontinentalgtchallenge.com, the qualifying on Friday, November 22, 2019 and the race on Saturday, November 23, 2019 will be broadcast live.
