Two top five results for Frikadelli Racing at the Lausitzring

26.05.2024

At the second stop of the Prototype Cup Germany season at the Lausitzring, the Frikadelli Racing Team was able to score important points for the championship with the #30 Ligier JS P320. Klaus Abbelen and Felipe Laser finished sixth, fifth and fourth overall in the three races.

“We are definitely satisfied with the results from the weekend. The starting field in the Prototype Cup Germany is currently not particularly large in terms of numbers, but it is extremely strong in terms of quality. The two top five results were therefore okay, but even more important was the fact that we were able to improve our performance from race to race. We have achieved that. We need to build on this for the next stages of the season,” explains Team Principal Klaus Abbelen.

Frikadelli Racing started the first race on Saturday from sixth on the grid. Even though Abbelen lost a place in the meantime, he managed to hand the Ligier JS P320 back over to team-mate Laser in sixth place in the middle of the race. Laser closed the gap to the top five until the black and white checkered flag dropped, but was unable to overtake them in the final phase.

Things went better for the driver duo on Sunday. Laser started the second race of the season from third place and successfully defended this position until the driver changeover. Abbelen consolidated a top five result in the subsequent stint with fifth place overall.

In the third race on Sunday afternoon, Frikadelli Racing battled for a podium finish in the final phase of the race. Laser was beaten by a wafer-thin margin at the finish, but achieved his best result of the season with fourth place overall.

“We certainly benefited a little from the safety car and the mistakes of the competition in the last race. Nevertheless, the pace was better than in the two races before. We will therefore take these positive impressions with us to the next round of the season at Zandvoort and are glad that the Lausitzring is now over,” continued Abbelen.
